Goodwill of Orange County Helps to Transition Veterans with ‘Boots to Suits’

Goodwill Agencies across Southern California team up to offer $50 towards clothing and accessories for U.S. veterans and active military members

SANTA ANA, Calif. - January 31, 2012 – Goodwill of Orange County’s Boots to Suits Veteran Program is giving U.S. veterans and active military members $50 towards clothing and accessories to help prepare for employment. The program is available by appointment through the Goodwill Career Center in Santa Ana from February 15-17, 2012, and veterans can also receive career counseling during their visit. Interested individuals are asked to call Cindy Ferry at 714-547-6308 ext. 332 for more details. Veterans will be required to show their Veteran ID card or DD214 to participate and receive the merchandise voucher.

Goodwill is responding to the increasing need for veteran support as thousands of troops return to Orange County from their military service overseas. The $50 clothing voucher is redeemable at any of the 20 Goodwill stores in Orange County. Local residents are encouraged to help support the program by donating gently used or new business attire to their local Goodwill stores or donation centers.

“As veterans move from military to civilian roles, they face a strained economy and massive unemployment rates. We’re hoping to alleviate a small bit of stress by offering this program to help ease the transition, as well as show our gratitude for their service to our country,” said Corrine Allen, Vice President of Retail Operations for Goodwill of Orange County.

Veterans are just one of the populations poised to receive job training and employment services from Goodwill career counselors. Each year, Goodwill of Orange County helps thousands of individuals overcome barriers to employment. Job developers work closely with program participants to help them realize their talents and dreams in addition to developing successful job skills to then apply to their career search. The services are designed to assist participants with job interviews and ultimately gain employment.

“We salute Goodwill’s commitment to our veterans. The Boots to Suits programs and Goodwill partnerships are vital to ensuring that the needs of our California military veterans are met,” said Secretary of the California Department of Veterans Affairs, Peter Gravett, Major General (Ret.).
