Iconic Military Leader, Former Head of Iraq Multinational Force and Chief of Staff for US Army, General George W. Casey Jr., Challenges
OC Business Community to Create Jobs for Veterans
--General Casey Helps Goodwill of Orange County Launch New National Pilot Program "Mission Enduring Independence” with Goal of Assisting OC's 147,000+ Veterans, Reservists and National Guard Members Find Jobs --
SANTA ANA, Calif. – June 19, 2013 – Goodwill of Orange County has announced that General George W. Casey Jr.*, one of America’s most iconic military leaders, former head of the Iraq Multinational Force and former Chief of Staff for the US Army from 2007 to 2011, will challenge the Orange County business community to pledge jobs to the county's 147,000-plus Veterans, Reservists and National Guard members.
General Casey's call for action will launch the "Mission Enduring Independence" national pilot program at the Goodwill Invitational Golf Tournament on Friday, June 28 at the Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point, CA. The General will address the Orange County business community about not only pledging funds for the program, but pledging jobs for the county's veterans. "Mission Enduring Independence" will highlight "Vet Advantages," which are attributes that Goodwill of Orange County has confirmed employers are looking for in their employees.
About "Vet Advantages"
"Military services are releasing thousands of young men and women monthly as their deployments and contracts end," said Casey. "These talented young people have acquired life skills and experiences -- such as loyalty, resourcefulness, integrity, the discipline to follow policies, procedures and processes -- that are missing from potential employees of the same age. 'Mission Enduring Independence' is a breakthrough program that focuses on more than creating jobs, but on achieving lifelong independence. Given that California has the largest veteran population in the country, and Orange County has the sixth largest vet population, hiring just one vet fundamentally saves their life.”
The ten core "Vet Advantages" are:
1. Dependability 2. Integrity 3. Teamwork 4. Accountability 5. Initiative 6. Loyalty 7. Unselfishness 8. Courage 9. Effectiveness 10. Decisiveness
“Goodwill has been in the business of helping people get and keep jobs for over 100 years, and has now used that experience to create a program tailored to the employment needs of veterans, reservists and National Guard members," said Frank Talarico, Jr., president and CEO of Goodwill of Orange County. "Through our direct relationships with 250 Orange County companies, we are asking these companies -- via General Casey -- to pledge jobs to our nation's returning military heroes. 'Mission Enduring Independence' helps prepare these young men and women so that they’re 'must hire’ candidates for our county’s vibrant economy. When a vet is hired, it transforms workplaces because of the attributes they bring with them from their military service.”
"Mission Enduring Independence" will launch in Orange County and then roll out nationally via other Goodwill organizations across the country.
